Backlink
A backlink is a link from another website to yours. Search engines treat backlinks from relevant, trusted sites as a sign your site is worth ranking.

inbound linkincoming linkEvery time another site links to a page of yours, that's a backlink. Search engines read links as votes: a link from a well-known, relevant site counts for far more than one from an unknown or unrelated site, and many low-quality links can hurt rather than help.
Whether a backlink passes that ranking signal depends on its rel attribute — a plain or dofollow link does; nofollow, sponsored and UGC links ask search engines not to count it.
